John and I made quite a few stops on our way to Florida. Since out trip was evolved around birding, every rest stop we stopped at we decided to look around at the birds. We left 9am to head to Florida. We finally arrived to Perry, Florida at our motel around 5pm. We stayed at the Royal Inn. Vipul was super nice. He was the guy that checked us in and out of the motel. To find out more about the hotel check out my review here on TripAdvisor.
We then went to 3 Nelsons a local eatery to you can also find my review on TripAdvisor as well. It was a cute little hole in the wall. Then we headed to Keaton beach! It’s not a super pretty beach but it will do. We did a lot of crabbing there! Then on the way back we stopped at these cool oak trees with lights in them. Then headed back to the motel for the night.
The next day was our big day! We headed to St. Marks National Wildlife refuge! St Marks has nearly 70k acres covering 40 miles of FL’s Gulf Coast. It is $5 a car to get in though. This is a great spot to go birding or see wild life in general. We saw 3 Eagles, several Alligators, several King Fishers, and quite a few other birds! I will let the rest of my pictures do most of the writing. The light house at the end is still under construction so you can’t go around or go in it just yet. That will probably change soon! We also went to another local eatery called Mama’s Italian. You can also find my TripAdvisor review here as well.
Did you know you can get a book to get stamps for refuges that offer them??!!! I got my first visiting St Marks! the lady that checked us out was awesome, she gave us information, told us a little about herself (well I asked) I can’t remember her name for the life of me though. I am also adding a video at the end of this post you can look at!
